Industry Overviews:
The Background:
- Public Community High School
- 2000 Students
- 220 Teachers and Administrators
- Community population of 67,000
The Challenge:
- Offer a higher level of security for students within the facility
- Provide the administration visibility to students and activities including tracking attendance for government funding.
- Given the increased need for security in many public venues, educators are challenged to know more about a student's whereabouts at all times.
The Solution:
- RFID enabled Identification cards.
- Photo ID card's affixed to lanyards or clips.
- A commissioned RFID chip embedded within the ID card for each student and administrator.
- RFID Portals placed in high traffic areas and entrances to the facilty.
The Process:
Students pass through doorways that are enabled with a RFID reader and antennas on their way into a classroom. The reader identifies the ID card and sends real-time information to a server in the school's administrative office. The server associates the information to the Student's name and updates the attendance list for that class. The attendance list is then automatically forwarded to the teacher's laptop, identifying all of the students who are in attendance that day. The teacher verifies that the students should be in that classroom at that time as well as confirms the students' attendance for the class.
Summary:
- Increased security
- Protection of student body and administration
- Student visibility and tracking.
- Immediate attendance confirmation
